Israel's Poverty Crisis

conditions in the last quarter of 2008 have begun to be affected by the
worldwide financial crisis which escalated during the past year. The consensus
forecast is that socioeconomic conditions will continue to worsen throughout

Social Gaps in 2007, November 2008
- Almost 25% or 1 in 4 Israelis live below the poverty line. That accounts for 1,630,400 people.
- Israel has a larger percentage of poor when
compared to countries that we commonly consider 3rd world, such as Mexico
and Turkey.
- 34% of Israeli children live below the poverty line, accounting for 773,900 people.
- 186,775 of familes with 5 or more children are
living below the poverty line. That is a staggering 66.7% of familes belonging to this group.

provided by the National Insurance Institute (NII) of Israel. The
